Designer Underwear

Many of today’s most famous celebrities are now no longer frightened to confess their underwear secrets. As well as celebrities endorsing particular brands, there are also those celebrities who have taken a step further by launching their own ranges of designer underwear. Some of the main reasons for buying designer underwear are that they reflect current styles, have a particular cut and also use lot higher quality fabrics than normal high street ranges, creating longer lasting underwear essentials.

The designer brand Hanro is favoured by Nicole Kidman and Oprah Winfrey for its comfort. It produces underwear in microfibre, as well as the more traditional materials such silk and cotton. Price wise, these are a little more expensive than the high street brands and tend to be more traditional styling, but Hanro does have a long history of lingerie production. The designer brand Chantelle has also been in production for many years and is worn by many celebrities such as Kate Winslet and Ashlee Simpson.

Peaches Geldof is now one of the new faces of Ultimo underwear, joining an all-star list of previous models including Mel B and Rachel Hunter. Peaches’ describes the Miss Ultimo range as “young and fun, with just the right amount of sexiness and stylishness”. Melinda Messenger has also been seen modelling the latest range of Ultimo miracle solutions underwear, which has been designed to make that stylish outfit fit perfectly. Ultimo offer a number of other ranges, some of these having the now popular burlesque twist to them of lots of polka dots and ribbons. Underwear in these ranges are average priced at less than £45 for a set (bra and knickers), with a range of colours and styles available up to a G cup.

For the Italian designer brands, Emporio Armani remains a favourite for both ladies and gents, with both David and Victoria Beckham having modelled for Emporio Armani. The gents line is more established, with their 100% cotton, comfortable trunks and briefs remaining a favourite for many men – prices range from about £10 upwards. For the ladies, a set available is available for under £100, making either a nice treat, or as a wish on the Christmas list.

The current face of Wonderbra, Dita von Teese has brought even more vintage chic to designer underwear, with her design collaboration with Wonderbra. This brand remains one of the biggest selling worldwide today, with a 2008 survey of 3000 British women voting the Wonderbra as the greatest fashion innovation of all time!

Underwear that is a favourite amongst many celebrities are the ranges designed to smooth away some of those bumps and create a more flattering figure. Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba and Anne Hathaway are just a few of the celebrities who have admitted to wearing Spanx lingerie.

Elle Macpherson is one of the celebrities who has successfully launched her own line of underwear. She is heavily involving with the designs which are softly coloured and well-fitting, with lots of lace and feminine styling. The brand also includes maternity wear for mums-to-be. The prices of this are similar to other designer brands, with sets available for around £50.
